@bardstownbourbonco Mars collab is a blend of 10 and 16 yr KY bourbon and 5 yr Japanese single malt whisky that aged together for 1 year. At 109.8 proof, this one brings notes of orange creamsicle and anise on the nose followed by key lime, guava, and oak on the palate with a poached pear and wafer cookie finish. Honestly I had no idea what to expect from a blend like this, but it’s definitely a cool pour to explore. Do you have a favorite Japanese single malt? Which Bardstown release has been your favorite so far?

@heavenhillbrands 3rd edition Grain to Glass release and Deatsville Commemorative Edition. Starting with the Grain to Glass Wheated Bourbon. At 107.8 proof this 6 yr old, 52/35/13 corn/wheat/malted barley mashbill distilled with Beck’s 6269 corn varietal brings notes of lemon pound cake, dried papaya, and mesquite. The Deatsville release on the other hand is one of the last releases of bourbon fully matured at the Deatsville campus before transitioning the site. This 13 yr age stated, 109 proof, 78/10/12 corn/rye/malted barley mashbill gives notes of peanut butter pie, strawberries, and coconut. Two totally different releases showcasing the range of flavor profiles from a very well known brand. Have you tried either of these before? What is your favorite @heavenhilldistillery product?

@michterswhiskey released a barrel strength sour mash whiskey for the first time and it definitely lives up to the hype. After hearing all the hype around the new @preservationdistillery @veryoldestnick Immaculata release, I was excited to try it for myself. This blend of 8 yr preservation wheated pot still bourbon, 10 yr high rye KY bourbon, and 19 yr KY bourbon comes in at 118.2 proof. The nose brings notes of Nila wafers, cannolis , and cinnamon followed by black cherry, cardamom, and lavender on the palate with milk chocolate, pomegranate, and orange peel on the finish. I paired this one with a @romeoyjulieta_usa to really enhance the cherry and oak notes. Have you tried anything from Preservation distillery yet?

Friday fun with some @jackdaniels_us 10 yr, 142.7 proof rye. Maple syrup and dried apricot on the nose followed by licorice and gingerbread cookies on the palate with a black cherry and tobacco finish. This one definitely brings the fire, but the sweet fruit notes make this one you keep wanting to revisit even with the high proof point. Do you typically prefer the JD barrel proof bourbon or rye?

Even the darkest of clouds can’t ruin a summer lake day with some @whiskeyjypsi Explorers bourbon and a cigar. This 103 proof, 6 yr, KY and IN bourbon is finished with French and Appalachian oak staves and brings notes of honeysuckles and pears on the nose followed by toasted marshmallows and caramel chews on the palate with a tannic oak and plum finish. Where is your favorite spot to sit and enjoy a good pour?

One of my favorite lineups to date has to be this @eaglerarebourbon progression. Starting with the standard 10 yr, new 12 yr, BTAC 17 yr, and finally the 25 yr and 30 yr pours. If you’ve tried any of this line, you know you can always find the bright black cherry cola notes. That being said, let’s dive into the oldest 2. The 25 yr brings rich red fruit notes specially dried cherries, leather, and prune on the nose followed by strawberry jam and creamy lemon pound cake on the palate with a dried apple, apricot, and coconut finish. The 30 yr however is oak heavy with notes of caramel clusters, milk chocolate, and black cherry on the nose followed by tobacco and toffee on the palate with a leather and Nila wafers finish. What have you tried from this lineup and which would you be most interested in trying?

Name your favorite distillery experience? Mine is anytime I get to thieve straight from the barrel! @southerndistilling has a great bottle your own experience where you get to sample from 4 different barrels to pick your favorite. From thieving, filling the bottle, and adding the custom label, this is definitely an experience to add to your list. We finished the day with an in depth tour of the facility and property followed by a visit to the speakeasy for some of their current and potential future offerings. Have you tried any @southernstarwhiskey before?

The 28th release of @buffalotracedistillery experimental collection is this 13 barrel blend of low entry proof 15 yr wheated bourbon at 107 proof. The nose brings notes of toffee bits, dried raspberry, and tobacco followed by oak, cinnamon, and cherry cordials on the palate with a white pepper, hazelnuts, and fig. This is an incredible pour if you can get a bottle, and at a MSRP of $47, you can’t go wrong. Have you tried any of BT’s experimental collection before?

@jackdaniels_us 10, 12, & 14 year releases. Swipe ➡️ to see all my notes on these but here’s my overall thoughts on these in order of preference:
-If you want something complex and slightly unexpected but with just enough of that banana flavor profile we’ve come to love from Jack, the 12 yr is for you. This was my personal favorite!
-If you are looking for an elevated version of the Jack flavor profile, the 10 yr is for you. It’s a solid pour but it didn’t “wow” me.
-If you want something “off profile” and high proof, then the 14 yr is for you. Personally, I find it a little harsh with the higher proof point.
So, which would you choose?

Do you like cigar blends? Honestly, I typically don’t gravitate towards these blends for neat pours because the finishes tend to feel heavy. That being said, this @barrellbourbon cigar blend pleasantly surprised me. The 7.5 - 18 yr ages stared KY, IN, & TN bourbon blend is 111.2 proof and finished in Madeira, Armagnac, rum, and Hungarian oak casks. It brings notes of butterscotch, banana, and white chocolate on the nose followed by raspberry, coconut cream pie, and raisins on the palate with a leather, nutmeg, and dates finish. I really appreciate the woody notes that balance against the wine and rum sweet notes. What are your thoughts on cigar blends?

With a 75/21/4 corn/rye/malted barley mashbill, it brings notes of cinnamon apple bread, honeysuckle, and pralines on the nose followed by nutmeg, clementines, and strawberry jam on the palate with a black licorice, tobacco, and boysenberry finish. Let’s talk about @michterswhiskey newest 10 yr bourbon release. This one brings notes of chocolate covered caramel pretzels and nutmeg on the nose followed by apricot, iced blueberry donuts, and leather on the palate with a tobacco, cantaloupe, and juniper finish. I absolutely loved last year’s release and this one is quickly becoming a favorite pour for me as well. Have you had any of the 10 year releases yet?

With only a few days left in April, what better way to end this Earth month than by supporting @redwoodempirewhiskey goal to plant 100,000 trees this month. Every cocktail and bottle purchased from select liquor stores and bars equals one new tree planted. More information can be found on their website, and this Lost Monarch cask strength release is a great bottle to try to participate in this program.
