Nose:

Toasted coconut, rum, green apples, and stewed peaches.

Palate:

Apricot jelly, cantaloupe, Mandarin oranges in syrup, and white pepper.

Finish:

Grilled peaches, white grape juice, and pineapple.

Final Thoughts:

With all of the experimental finished whiskey on the market, it is nice to see a rye finished in rum casks to balance the spiciness of the rye against the sweet tropical notes in the rum. In this case, the rum tends to overtake the rye on the nose with big tropical coconut aromas, however, the balance is restored on the palate as the spice makes its way back into the mix. An interesting combination to try, but personally I am not a huge rum fan.
