Heaven’s Door- Ascension

The Basics:

Blend of two Kentucky Straight Bourbons

92 Proof

6 Year Age Statement

$55 MSRP

Nose:

Creamy with notes of butterscotch and maple syrup.

Palate:

A surprising pop of hami melon and nutmeg.

Finish:

A medium finish with notes of blood orange, grapefruit, and black pepper.

Final Thoughts:

It isn’t often that you come across an aroma or flavor note in a bourbon that is unlike anything else you’ve ever had. In the case of Heaven’s Door Ascension, pronounced blood orange and grapefruit come out unexpectedly on the finish for a surprise ending to this pour. A bit bitter for my liking on the back-end, but also intriguing to experience something new in what can sometimes feel like a wide variety of sameness.
